Age-appropriate engagement
Children and young people are just a vital part of our church family as the adults are. And so, we make sure that there are age-appropriate groups for our children and our teenagers so that they can engage with the truths about Jesus for themselves.

Youth and children's groups

Youth and children's groups

There are a number of age-appropriate groups that meet in the Parish of High Ongar on Sundays. Each group exists to help children and teenagers of the various age groups to discover Jesus for themselves and grow in faith together.  The groups are coordinated by our Rector and his support team and are run by volunteer leaders who have passed our own strict child protection vetting process as well as the national policy DBS (formerly CRB) checking process.

Children aged 0-3 years

The parent's room
For parents of newborn babies, there is a special room at the back of the St Mary's church building that is set aside if your baby needs feeding or is crying as they settle.

The Crèche
Every Sunday there is a crèche available for parents with children 3 years and under (subject to volunteer leader availability). In the crèche, the children enjoy a simple prayer and Bible time, where the Bible story is told using pictures. This is then followed by free play.

Children in Reception to Year 6

Children's Church
On a typical Sunday, the children begin in the main service with their parents and leave for their own groups at a designated point. Their time together in Children's Church is split into two halves. In the first half, there is a time of enjoyable activities, prayer and worship together. This is followed by the second half of Children's Church which is spent in small groups, where they hear teaching from the Bible, enjoy crafts and particpate in games and activities to help them understand the passage or topic they are looking at.

Teenagers in Year 7 to Year 13

RNDM
This is the group for school years 7 to 9 which meets on a Thursday evening and Sunday morning. RNDM features time together looking at the Bible and getting to grips with what difference the truths about Jesus makes to our lives as teenagers in 21st century Britain. There are also other events, activities and socials throughout each term. Click the RNDM / RNDM+ term card link in the menu on the left of the page for more information.

RNDM+
This is the group for school years 10 to 13 which also meets on a Thursday evening and Sunday morning. RNDM+ is similar to the younger teenage group, where we explore the Bible and the Christian faith in depth but in a relaxed and informal way. There are also other events, activities and socials throughout each term. Click the RNDM / RNDM+ term card link in the menu on the left of the page for more information.
